Yesterday, being a lovely Saturday, seemed like the perfect time to put on some Christmas music and make ornaments! It's getting close to that time of year, and since it is my favorite time of year, I'm only too anxious for it to begin!
Lucy came over about 12pm, and we must have opened every single box of paper scraps, bottle of glitter, and jar of buttons in the house within 15 minutes time. Just look at that mess!
The first ornament to be finished! Lucy started with a styrofoam ball, covered it in buttons, and attached a lovely paper flower and tag. My husband, J, thought this was looking like it was too much fun to ignore, so he joined in! Sipping hot cocoa, pink glue-gun in hand, he was one of the gals!
And I have evidence to prove it! Just look at that glue-gun action! He had taken it upon himself to make the prettiest ornament.
Here are four of the five I completed (the fifth had already been kidnapped by Lucy). They're decoupaged, glittered, and bedazzled shells!
And here is J's pride and joy. He spent a lot of time and effort getting it perfect, and then giving it to me with the joy of a boy giving a girl her corsage before prom. It was very sweet, and this ornament will grace our tree for many years, I am sure.
And here is the lovely ornament Lucy made for me! Part of the fun of an ornament making party is making one for everyone else in attendance. I try to find an ornament for each of my closest friends and family members every year. Something that I hope will bring back happy memories every time they hang it on their tree. These ornaments will do that for me in the years to come.
While we were creating ornaments, we were listening to Christmas radio online, and the most horrific, hilarious, terrible song I have ever heard in my life came on (and directly after Bing Crosby singing White Christmas). I don't even know how to describe it to you... just listen... and please forgive me after! To warn you: it is some type of rap (possibly?) in some language I don't know (Finnish? Icelandic?) mixed with the old Christmas standby, Sleigh Bells. ENJOY!
If anyone knows what language that is, or why on earth anyone ever recorded such a thing, please enlighten me.
What ornaments on your tree will bring back the most special memories this year, and why? I love stories!
I was too afraid to listen to the song. I am sorry. ;) My fave corny Christmas song is Alabama's "Thistle Hair the Christmas Bear." My sister and I crack up every time we hear it. And then sing along. Cuz it's that weird!
I have so many ornaments that bring memories that it's hard to choose one. My mother-in-law gave me this awesome vintagey wooden chicken a few years ago and I always make sure to hang it in the middle where all can see. Or, at least, where I can see. :)

The song is somewhat terrifying in its awfulness, so I don't blame you! Now I'm about to go look up "Thistle Hair the Christmas Bear" and give it a go, I've never heard it before!
The wooden chicken ornament sounds really neat. You should post photos!
